Famous atheist Christopher Hitchens dead at 62

Christopher Hitchens, the famous writer known for his fiery public opposition to religious belief, has died after a battle with esophogial cancer. He was 62.

Locally, Han Hills, the president of Humanists and Freethinkers of Cape Fear, is writing a piece about what Christopher Hitchens meant to atheists, humanists and freethinkers in our area. We’ll have that posted on this site later today.

Vanity Fair‘s tribute. Hitchens wrote a column for the magazine.

Rabbi Shmuley Boteach of The Jewish Daily Forward wrote here of his theological debates with Hitchens.

Former Bush speechwriter Michael Gerson wrote this tribute in October 2010 in The Washington Post, including a video interview with Hitchens.
